The Woman Behind The STeel, robin.

 Hello,

I would like to personally thank you for choosing Tiny Urban Escapes and welcome you to your own private oasis. I’m delighted to offer an experience like no other.

The decision to launch a luxe boutique hotel brand in the heart of the historically black community Haughville, is our commitment to community enhancement and cultural elevation through access to luxury wellness experiences for all. This boutique hotel is more than suites and services. It is true pioneering.

It’s symbolic of what is possible when curiously, intelligent, bold and confident women bet on themselves and follows a dream.

I look forward to sharing my personal journey with you and embracing yours as well.

Let’s chat soon.

Community

Mama’s House: A small tan ranch-style house, owned by my grandmother Ira J. Staten, affectionately called “Mama,” still sits in the middle of the block off the corner of Harding and 28th in the Historic Riverside neighborhood of Indianapolis West Side. This is where I first fell in love with hospitality and learned the true value of community. Her home, the “community’s” home, was a site of fellowship and fight of holiday events and late night summer rest . Every inch of the exterior from the broken wire gate to the interiors narrow paneled hallway, holds a story about the people who lived and frequented there. Mama’s home was a sacred commons. It was an envisioning space that held tight the dreams and aspirations of mid-day front porch conversations. It was where our creative impulses united and refuge is curated.

It is with the same spirit of “Mama’s” house that we commit to and invest in the celebration of community.

Culture

Culture is in our DNA: My paternal grandmother Estella Griffen modeled for Madam C.J. Walker, the first black female millionaire.  I come from a proud heritage which is why one of the principle objectives of TUE is to merge wellness with cultural heritage tourism. We want to protect natural and cultural resources, which improve the quality of life for residents and travelers who participate in the services and attractions. Heritage tourism also promotes community pride by allowing people to work together to enhance economic and cultural development through distinct community opportunities.

We hope to create a culture that welcomes residents, locals and travelers to thrive, explore and be well.
